Free job and career services are available from IowaWORKS. IowaWORKS has a wide variety of programs and services available to help you.
The City of Rock Valley encourages job seekers to utilize the free job and career services that are available through IowaWorks. The IowaWorks Spencer office serves the City of Rock Valley.
To take part in the online training opportunities listed above, please visit www.iowaworks.gov and create an account. Once you have logged in, navigate to “Current Month’s Events” and select the preferred event. Essential Tools for Job Seekers – Learn about the resources and services available to job seekers in the IowaWORKS American Job Centers, including O*NET Assessment, job searching, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and more.
Create a Great Resume – Learn to get the interview you want by preparing the resume that sells you to prospective employers!
Interview 101 – Make your interview stand out by gaining up-to-date interview tips and lean how to answer tough questions.
Conduct a Job Search – Participants will learn how to search and apply for in-demand jobs that fit your interests.

Advanced Resume: For those who have completed “Create a Great Resume” workshop., this workshop provides examples on how to modify your skills summary, resume sections, and to write “prove it” stories that match the qualities employers are looking for in job postings.
Bring Your ‘A’ Game: This two-part series will highlight the soft skills everyone needs to succeed in the workplace.
Completing Your Weekly Certification: Learn about IowaWORKS and core partners within an American Job Center and how they can assist you.
Conduct a Job Search: How to effectively search and apply for in-demand occupations that fit your interests in-person and online.
Create a Great Resume: Learn how to get that interview you want by preparing the resume that best sells you to prospective employers.
Develop a Career Plan/Research Industry Trends: Build an effective career plan that increases your chance for job search success and uses the latest labor market information.
EMERGE: The EMERGE Workshop has a wealth of information to assist those with a criminal background in navigating barriers to employment and is developed explicitly for justice involved citizens. This workshop covers the following topics: O*Net Interest Profiler, Understanding You, The Job Hunt, Employer Incentives, What's My Next Steps?

Interview 101: Make your interview stand out by avoiding interview pitfalls and answering the tough questions correctly (Offered in English and Spanish).
Maintain a Positive Attitude: Explore methods to effectively handle the unique stress brought about by a job loss or career transition.
Military Veterans Power Hour: These workshops will assist Veterans, current service members, and spouses in re-employment efforts with interview skills, resume, job searches, speaking with employers, overcoming obstacles, and instilling confidence.
Mock Interviews: Learn how a mock interview with IowaWORKS can improve your job search outcomes.
National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC): Take this nationally recognized assessment; be able to demonstrate your level of problem-solving skills in Workplace Documents, Applied Math & Graphic Literacy. Listing your Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate on your resume can set you apart from other competing job seekers!
Navigating Ageism in Your Job Search: Tailored for job seekers over the age of 50 to minimize stereotypes and amplify the positive qualities of an experienced worker!
Registered Apprenticeships: Trying to get a paid while getting on the job training? Then a Registered Apprenticeship may be a good fit for you. This workshop explains what a Registered Apprenticeship is, the different types, and commitment requirements.
Smart Planning for Your Money: A workshop presented by the Iowa Insurance Division on Topics related to financial literacy.
State of Iowa Applications: If you have ever considered applying for a position with the state of Iowa, take this workshop for tips on the hiring process.
Virtual Job Club: A different workshop each week on a variety of work-based topics designed for any job seeker, such as a Business Panel, LinkedIn, Attending Job Fairs, Would You Hire You? and Intro to IowaWorks.
