Flood Plain Plan Rough Draft Recap
April 24, 2026
Dordt University Students presented their draft of their plan for the flood plain area. This plan is a rough draft with a goal of having a proactive plan for the areas included in the FEMA buyout.
Dordt students taking the course Restoration Ecology, and Applied Stewardship, out together this plan after doing extensive research about the area. Their plan included 10 types of unique natural and recreational spaces and a plan for additional trails through these spaces.
They presented their plan at a community input night on April 21 and then sat down with those in attendance to gain feedback. They are now working on making small changes based on that feedback.
The City of Rock Valley is excited for the final plan and are grateful to the class for all the work they put into this project.
